Last weekend The Old Crown invited me and a friend to dinner. I spend so much of my time in the East End so it was a refreshing change to jump on a bus and head to Holborn.
The Old Crown is an quirky London pub that serves mean burgers and cocktails to stay out late for. A perfect location for dinner and a show with a substantial wine list. I ordered the blackened salmon with rice, which was good – but instantly regretted once I saw my friends pulled pork burger. It is a burger pub after all… We washed it down with a hearty Rioja. I couldn’t fault the service.
The well trodden stairs behind the bar lead to 2 function rooms (hired by a man in a towel and bunny ears on the night we were there?) and the quirkiest loos I have ever seen. To the backdrop of a Spanish language CD, one of the cubicles holds not one but two loos. A perfect arrangement for most girls on a boozy night out. No I didn’t share!
The cocktails were the icing on the burger. I enjoyed an espresso Martini followed by a Cosmopolitan and was about to order another, until the Spanish started sounding Italian. A great pub for a burger and a drink before the theatre – a boozy night out – or both!
