Louise Bourgeois – fabric works

I love the work of Louise Bourgeois. I had no idea she used fabric as a medium until I saw these pieces. Called ‘fabric drawings’ they are made from old clothes and other domestic fabrics collected over decades. Fabric played a very important part in her life. Her parents owned a tapestry restoration workshop and from the age of 12 she was responsible for drawing in the missing pieces. I know these belong in frames but as I’ve been contemplating new cushions for my sofa I can’t help but be inspired by these.  Now all I need is some fabric…

The book is available from Amazon

source: cotton and flax  who by the way, make some lovely cushions
