Chatsworth Road

What has happened to Chatsworth Road in Hackney? One of my good friends lived there 5 years ago and this street, a stones throw from Murder Mile, certainly didn’t look like this. It now has it’s own website stating it’s on the frontline of Hackney’s gentrification. They’re not kidding. It now has a Sunday market and in place of the cheap chicken shops are creperies and cafes. There’s even a designer toy shop called Hop!. Now my friend has moved away and another has moved in. Encouraged by her we went for a visit last Sunday – and loved it. We had a great time wondering through the market followed by coffee and cake at the newly opened Cooper & Wolf.

I know that some hardcore Hackneyites probably think the character of the area is being eroded by cappuccino supping yummy Mummies, but now I’ve seen the old and the new, I know which one I would choose.

  1. Indeed, Chatsworth is pretty cool but then again everything looks cool when you live in west London and go East. Funnily enough, that postcard ‘The Nonsense Express’ on your photo is actually the poster for my brother Rob’s Film! Next screening is at the Ritzy in brixton on Sunday 30th if you fancy a trip down South. Next time you go to Chatsworth, make sure to check out ‘the Dentistry’ which is a new wicked arts music venue which is run by a friend.

  2. My brother suggested I might like this blog.
He was entirely right. This post actually made my day.
You can not imagine simply how much time I
had spent for this info! Thanks!
